Privacy policy
Private Receipts stores your trip expenses on your iPhone and in your iCloud Drive so you can fill an expense claim later. There is no account in the app, and the developer does not run a server that receives your receipts.
App: Private Receipts.
Effective date: 10 October 2026.
What the app stores
When you add an expense, the app saves the fields you confirm: amount, currency, merchant, date, country, category, and any optional tax, tip, payment note, or notes. If you attach a photo, screenshot, or PDF, that file is saved next to the expense.
Those files live in an iCloud Drive folder named Private Receipts, one folder per trip. Apple syncs that folder to the other devices on your Apple Account. The developer cannot read that folder.
Settings stay on the iPhone: display currency, per diem amount and currency, category names, and the switches for Local AI only, Fetch FX rates, Trash, and Shrink Exported Images.
If Trash is on, a deleted trip stays in a trash folder in the same iCloud Drive container for 30 days, then the app removes it. If Trash is off, deletion is immediate.
Export builds claim.csv, a filled Excel workbook, numbered receipt copies, and a short summary on your device. Share sends that file only to the app you pick, such as Mail.
Location
If you allow location, the app takes one GPS fix to suggest the country for an expense. The country is looked up on the phone from a map file. The coordinates are not written into the expense, are not kept, and are not sent to the developer or to a geocoding service.
You can type or change the country without using location.
Receipt reading
Photos, screenshots, and shared images are read on the iPhone. Vision reads the text on the device. Apple’s on-device model drafts the amount, merchant, date, and category. You confirm or edit that draft before it is saved. A summary of a claim is written the same way, on device, when you export.
Local AI only is on by default. While it is on, receipt text is not sent off the iPhone for extraction or for the claim summary.
If you turn Local AI only off, and this iPhone has no on-device model, the app is built to ask Apple’s own cloud model to extract the receipt and nothing else. That cloud model is not offered by the system today, so the app leaves the fields empty for you to type. The app does not send receipts to any other model provider.
Network requests
The app does not upload your expenses. Two downloads can run, and neither of them includes the receipt, the merchant, or the amount:
- On first launch the app downloads a public country-outline file (Natural Earth 10m) from raw.githubusercontent.com. It is stored on the iPhone and marked so it is not included in backup. Until it arrives, a smaller map shipped inside the app is used.
- If you turn on Fetch FX rates, the app downloads public euro exchange-rate tables for the dates it needs. The request is only that date’s rate table. The hosts are open.er-api.com, cdn.jsdelivr.net, and currency-api.pages.dev. Fetched tables are cached on the iPhone. This switch is off by default.
Those hosts see the connection the way any HTTPS download does, including the IP address. They do not receive the contents of your expenses.
iCloud Drive sync is between your devices and Apple, under Apple’s iCloud terms.
What the developer does not do
The developer does not sell your data, does not use it for advertising, and does not include an analytics or tracking SDK. The app does not ask you to create an account.
Children
Private Receipts is a tool for filing work expenses. It is not directed at children under 13.
How long data stays
Expenses and receipts stay until you delete them in the app, delete the iCloud Drive folder, or delete the app and its iCloud data. Settings stay until you change them, delete the app, or erase the iPhone.
Changes
If this policy changes, the effective date above will change and the updated text will be published at this same address.
